Apollo was brought to the Ohio Bird Sanctuary in the summer of 1997. He had been found by a mushroom hunter as a downy chick and was raised by the individual. The owl was at a developmental stage where they identify their own species by association with their care giver. This bird because he was raised improperly is imprinted on humans and does not recognize his own species.
