Educational Building
The Ohio Bird Sanctuary is in the process of renovating this recently purchased building. The building will include a large area for indoor presentations, a classroom, the administrative offices, handicapped accessible restroom's, a catering kitchen and a gift shop. Once renovated, the building will be available for weddings and corporate retreat, and other large group rentals.
Visitor Center
The Visitor Center houses the administration office, public restroom's, a small gift shop, the bird care clinic and our classroom.
This building and restroom's are handicapped accessible.
Hiking Trails
Miles of trails wander through many different habitats at OBS. The Sanctuary is currently constructing a wheelchair accessible trail through the marsh region. The wildlife preserve is diverse in fauna and flora and is the home to rare plants, insects and bird species. Collecting of native species without the appropriate permits is prohibited.A map of the trails is available for downloading, under the "About Us" tab "Trails and Grounds."
Live Bird Displays
Fifteen enclosures house various non-releasable raptor and corvid species.
Many of these individual birds travel to local schools as avian ambassadors. The enclosures have interpretive signs with natural history facts about the species
and the bird's personal history. These areas are wheelchair accessible via the brick walkway.
Walk-through Songbird Aviary
Perhaps the most popular attraction at the Sanctuary! The 70 by 30 foot open air enclosure houses a variety of bird species that cannot be returned to the wild. If you have a fear of flighted birds it is suggested that you do not enter the aviary enclosure. Many of the birds are friendly, and will approach quite closely. Mealworms, that can be hand-fed to some of the aviary residents, are available in the visitors center for a quarter. The aviary is wheelchair accessible.
Field Classroom
This rustic A-frame is the building used for the Sanctuary'sJr. Naturalist program, Home School sessions and many other activities.
Amphitheater
An outdoor area that seats up to 150 visitors. Home of our bird of prey shows.
