1. How are you supported?
The Ohio Bird Sanctuary is a non-profit organization that is supported by donations, program fees, memberships and grants.

2. What do I do if a bird is striking my window?
Birds will repeatedly strike windows because they see their own reflection and try to battle the intruder. The best solution is to reduce the window reflection by hanging light colored paper or any other material on the inside of the window.

3. What do I do if I find a baby bird on the ground?
If the bird is hopping around and has feathers it does not need your help. The bird may seem helpless, but this is a natural stage in their development. They have outgrown the nest and need a few days to learn how to fly. Place the baby in a dense bush or on a solid branch and try to secure domestic predators . It is always best to leave the young bird with its parents.

4. What do I do if I have a bird/hawk trapped in a building?
Birds that are caught in a large warehouse are extremely difficult to assist. We do not have equipment to capture and remove. If the building has any high windows of large vents that can be opened the birds will fly to the highest location and may escape through the opening. Rarely will the bird fly down and go out the same place it came in, but you can try to leave the door open and they may come down.

5. What do I do if I find an injured raptor?
Raptors have very sharp talons and powerful beaks so use caution when approaching a raptor. Observe the bird from a distance to make sure it is injured and not just feeding. If the bird is injured and needs help, locate a thick blanket and throw it over the bird. It will then grab the blanket with its feet. Make sure the head is covered as well. Slide the bird into a cardboard box or container and take it to your local rehabilitation facility.

6. Are you open in the winter?
We are open all year, Closed: Mondays and holidays.

7. Where is the eagle nest located?
The new Clearfork Eagle nest is located on the Clearfork Reservoir, along State Rt. 97. It is difficult to view. It is difficult to view once the trees leaf-out. The only viewing during the spring and summer is from a boat on the lake. Please remember that these birds are protected and that there are severe penalties for causing the failure of a nest. There are also laws preventing the collection of eagle feathers.

8. Are dogs allowed on your trails?
Yes, dogs are allowed on our trails, as long as they are on a leash. Since many of our birds are frightened by dogs, please do not take your dog by the display cages or in the aviary.
