The Sanctuary is located on 90 acres of forest and marsh that border the Clearfork Reservoir. There are eight scenic trails that wind through pine groves, marshland, meadows, and along the banks of the Clearfork River. All of our trails are open year round with exceptions due to weather on occasion. If you'd like to download a trail map, click on the link below this paragraph (.PDF file). We also have maps available in our visitor's center.

The butterfly garden in front of the Songbird Aviary began as a Jr. Naturalist project in 2001. The garden was a small project that the J.Nats cared for. It grew into something much larger. In 2006 two locations for butterfly meadows were picked out and the Jr. Naturalists, again, took charge. The meadow at the head of the trail sprouted the next year with a variety of wildflower species including wingstem, milkweed, and black-eyed susan. The meadow on the lower half of Pine Siskin trail burst into color the spring of 2008 boasting sweet william and biennial foxglove.

The Butterfly Garden as well as some of the gardens surrounding the Visitor Center at the Sanctuary have been adopted by the local garden club; Flowers and Friends.
